Diversity & Inclusiveness

Embracing Inclusiveness

As a company driven by ideas, we rely on the ingenuity, diversity and commitment of our people. Our ability to build and maintain a diverse and inclusive work environment is critical as we continually redefine ourselves: A workplace that fosters respect, inclusion and opportunities for all employees, which in turn fuels our success built on our unique talents, perspectives and experiences.

We welcome and encourage differing viewpoints. Our employees are of varying cultural backgrounds and nationalities, and bring with them diverse and valuable experiences. We not only value our people for their technical competencies, but also for their creative ideas and unique perspectives.

We are committed to recruiting and retaining the best and brightest people from the broadest talent pool possible, to best serve our global customers.

Advancing Dialogue on Women in Leadership

Every time Tan Poh Lay missed her son’s soccer or table tennis game for a work commitment, she felt an overwhelming sense of guilt. Balancing work and life roles is a challenge leaders like Poh Lay, Singapore Women’s Council sponsor and finance director, Aftermarket, Asia Pacific, face in their careers.

A panel of senior leaders from Pratt & Whitney, MasterCard Asia Pacific and Singapore Airlines Engineering Company discussed challenges they encountered during their careers and how they overcame these obstacles. At the Singapore Women’s Leadership Forum, the panelists also spoke about the need for a paradigm shift at the workplace – instilling in women a sense of belief in themselves, and to step up and seize opportunities without fear.

“We need talented, diverse and creative minds who will take our company forward, innovate and drive progress into the very competitive aerospace industry,” said Joseph Sylvestro, vice president, Aftermarket. “Women are a critical part of this equation to ensure the best talent available is leading our company into the future.”

Speed Mentoring: Career Advice to Coach Women

Singapore’s then Minister for Finance and Transport, Josephine Teo, said in a keynote address that for many women in the workplace today, having it all – a career, a family and time for herself – is possible but not without sacrifices.

Speed mentoring at the annual Women’s Leadership Forum allowed women to meet experienced professionals in the UTC group to acquire valuable career information, get tips to help solve a tricky work situation or sort out prospective mentors.

Valuing Workplace Diversity

Pratt & Whitney Turbine Overhaul Services encourages employees to celebrate their ethnicity and respect cultural differences. To promote a culturally inclusive and harmonious workplace, fellow employees – also council members – initiated the Diversity Council to organize various initiatives.

The company is also an award finalist of the Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP), which recognizes exemplary organizations that have effectively implemented fair, responsible and inclusive employment practices.

Perceptions of Diversity

Our diverse workforce is the engine behind our innovation and growth. This is why we believe in embracing differences. As part of our commitment to foster an inclusive workplace, we introduced a poster competition encouraging employees to share their perspectives and what Diversity and Inclusion means to them.
